You've been thinking you wish you knew me better right? I thought so. Here are some down and dirty facts about Eme Ashe. I'm not saying they are interesting; I am just saying they are true.
- I don't like potatoes. Occasionally, if they are made perfectly, with crispy outsides and lots of flavorings, I eat them. French fries are sometimes acceptable if I can't actually taste the potato. I don't even really like potato chips, (give me a Dorito or a tortilla chip any day). I do occasionally eat potatoes to be polite. I don't do much to be polite but sometimes, I do potatoes.
- I am a fiber freak. Fiber is so good for you. My cupboards sometimes make me seem older than I am. They are filled with fiber goodness. If it is high fiber or whole grain, I eat it.
- I love to drive. That is an understatement. Roadtrips, Sunday drives, driving for no reason...all are fun. If I could make a living driving across the country I would. Except no, I do not want to be a big-rig driver.
- I am a country music fan. I grew up with country music listening parents in the 80s which means my heart will always be with Reba, Diamond Rio, Randy Travis, Dwight Yoakam, Alabama, the Oakridge Boys, Shenandoah, Anne Murray, Travis Tritt, George Straight, Clint Black, and many others. I have embraced Sugarland, the Dixie Chicks, some Tim McGraw, some Garth Brooks, and other more recent artists but 80s country will always have a special place in my heart.
- Speaking of my heart, it will always be with the Pittsburgh Steelers. I respectfully embraced the Seahawks during my time in Seattle. Now, I won't route against them, (unless they are playing my Steelers or for Fantasy Football purposes, ) but my heart just isn't with them. Sorry boys. The Steelers, on the other hand, have taught me a lot about commitment and being in a long-term relationship. There will be good times and there will be bad times. I will go to bed disappointed, heartbroken, and angry. I will also go to bed with a smile on my face, filled with joy and pride. Regardless, when I awake, my love for them will be the same.
- Rain is my friend. My natural temperament is somewhat melancholy, reserved, introspective. I love to watch the rain, drink a cup of coffee, read a book, think awhile, and fall asleep. I used to write poetry all the time, letting my teenage angst out while the rain pelted my bedroom window in Pittsburgh. I will walk in the rain, run in the rain, watch football in the rain, and smile in the rain. We're friends. Forever.
- Other than being committed to my Steelers, the rain, country music, and driving, I have commitment issues. I'm not married, I'm not a homeowner, I keep people at arm's length, and I move around a lot. I am terrified of making the wrong decision. Again. I am unfortunately indecisive and procrastinate until I simply can't any longer. The ironic thing is, once you have me, I am stubbornly loyal.
- I absolutely have to learn the hard way. I am such a stubborn butt-head most of the time that I won't budge on something unless I try it. I have to try and fail or I won't believe you. I have to be right, when I know I am. I can admit when I am wrong with no reservations if my incorrectness is scientifically proven.
- I don't want children. No really, I don't. Occasionally I hear a "tick" of my internal clock and occasionally I think about adopting an angst filled tween, but ultimately, I don't want kids. I think life is funny and likes to mess with people so I wouldn't be surprised if I got pregnant with triplets or met the man of my dreams who has five children from a previous marriage. If I have it my way I'll be an aunt, biological or not, to many, many children who, after spending time with me, will go home to their parents for food, clothing, and a college education.
- I'm not an easy person to love. While my tactlessness and sarcasm have abated some over the years, both remain traits. Coupled with the above mentioned stubbornness and the condescending comments that regularly roll off my tongue, it's no wonder potential suitors and friends are not lined up outside my door. Those who love me have made a choice to do so and I can only hope they are as stubborn as me.
